Apprenticeship Information

Dear future apprentices,

Passports and airline  tickets should be acquired early , at least three weeks in advance, and low student fairs should be sought. Some students find air fares as low as $500 Round Trip  from Atlanta to Nice to Atlanta.    While in Vence you are furnished  room, utilities, but not board or a  salary.   The N.A.L.L. Art Association used to  require a  $1000 per student donation, but now we are able to accept the summer student apprentices for free.  Depending on economic background,  we often reimburse the student for the airline ticket after he or she  has completed his or her three month apprenticeship.   You will need at least $300 per month for food and another amount depending on your traveling and entertainment while you are here.  I think that even $500 is not an unreasonable amount to expect as the dollar is currently very low.

Apprenticeship chores are doing whatever needs to be done in the studio, 8 hours a day , 5 days a week.   Working on mosaics, tromped l'oeil, greeting guest to the foundation, entertaining at Association events, setting up shows, hanging shows, cleaning studio and grounds around the studio at the end of each work day, computer work, and 1000 other things .
We do yoga exercises at 7:30 am  for 30 minutes, work till 12, and again from 2-6 pm.

Items that you will need are work clothes, hiking boots or good tennis shoes, and a nice outfit for parties here at the Foundation and in Monaco ;  a flashlight, and any other things that you usually require.   A portable computer is best,  but the French electrical system and the American systems are different, and you have to have the proper connections, and transformers, which the cabins do not have. I do have satellite connections, so this may help from a distance of 10 meters from the main studio. There are also  2 email cafes here in Vence 5 minutes away.

We have a French teacher come to the Association and give private lessons to the student apprentices 2 hours a week.
I  give a two week workshop of drawing and watercolor, in the mornings while all of the other apprentices are in residence.   I am also available for critics, if outside work is done.

You may call Mr. Corley Chapman to help you search for an inexpensive airline ticket, in Troy , Alabama, at  334-566 2106.
Until soon, please let me hear from you  asap .

All best, Nall
